Keeping in mind the commitment and aspirations of our students and parents for an international curriculum, we offer the international Baccalaureate (IB) along with our other academic programs. The IB Diploma Programme has a dynamic curriculum which fosters critical, independent thinking, inculcates pre university research skill and places a strong emphasis on cultural tolerance and understanding.

The International Baccalaureate Organisation offers three programmes:

- the Diploma Programme (DP), for students in the final two years of school before    university
- the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16
- the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is for students aged 3 to 12.

The Programme has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB diploma holders access to the world's leading universities. The program is being offered in117 countries worldwide. Students with the IB diploma have been accepted in Universities like the Harvard (USA), Oxford and Cambridge (UK), Heidelberg (Germany), Sorbonne (France). It is also recognised in India, Australia, Canada, Singapore etc.

Program Details

The IB Curriculum Model consists of a hexagon, with six academic subject groups surrounding a core.


· Students study a subject from each of the groups (complete at least three of these at the Higher Level and the remainder at the Standard Level).

· This is balanced with a simultaneous involvement in three other fundamental programmes Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and Creativity, Action and Service (CAS).

Theory of Knowledge: This engages students in process, analysis, critical reflection of the knowledge acquired and looks at the relationship between different subjects

Extended Essay: students undertake original research. Investigate a topic and write an essay of 4,000 words. Develops research and writing skills needed at university levels.

CAS: participation in theatre / musical productions, sports and community service enables students to share their talents and develop awareness, concern for community and other people.

Group 1 - Languages: A1 - first language. The courses are literature-based, and are intended to encourage breadth and depth of reading.

Group 2 - A second language which is offered at three different depths
B- for students who have done that language for a year or two
Ab Initio- for students who are learning the language for the very first time.

Group 3 - Individuals and Societies: History, Economics and Psychology are some of the subjects offered to provide understanding of diverse perspectives and values.

Experimental Sciences: Familiarity with a body of knowledge, methods and techniques that characterise Biology, chemistry and Physics is inculcated through discovery and observations

Mathematics and Computer Science: Seeks to develop logical and creative thinking in mathematics whilst understanding abstraction and generalisation to reach conclusions.

Arts: An understanding of the Arts - Visual, Music and Theatre - helps express creativity through performance and experiential learning.

Exam session The IB holds exams twice a year - in the months of May or November. The students at The Shri Ram School will give the exam at the end of the second year in the month of May.

Special Features

It offers a range of subjects: a science student has to do humanities subjects like history and vice-versa. Humanities have to do science, and all students have to do Maths

Subjects can be done to different depths - Higher or standard level depending on aptitude / interest

Theory of knowledge: (TOK) engages students in critical reflection of how we aquire knowledge, basis of knowledge, looks at the relationship between subjects, gets students to question the basis of knowledge. For example, students can look at the question of - "do we construct reality or do we recognize it?"

Extended Essay: (EE) Students have to investigate a topic of their interest and write a 4000 word essay on it. It has to be original work . It builds research skills required for university. The research can be done in any of the subjects offered by the IB.

Creativity, Action And Services: (CAS) raises students awareness of community needs and involves them in sharing their talent and knowledge in serving the community. It also encourages children to extend their limits and go beyond boundaries. Students are also required to participate in sports, expeditions etc.

A student has to do the above three components of TOK,CAS AND EE in order to be awarded the diploma along with the academics. Top
