Our Founder

Mrs. Manju Bharat Ram

(29th December 1945-12th December 2012)

An ardent educationist who believed in child-centric and value-based quality learning Mrs. Manju Bharat Ram was dedicated to transforming education in India covering both the privileged and the underprivileged sections of the society. The Shri Ram Schools (TSRS) which she started in 1988, are a living legacy of her ideals.

Mrs. Manju Bharat Ram also laid great emphasis on inclusiveness by keeping 10 per cent of seats for children with special needs. SRF Vidyalaya, which she founded in Chennai in 1991 for the underprivileged children from the surrounding villages, stands testimony to her commitment to the cause of education.

“It was Manju’s quest for knowledge and learning that enabled her to pick the best minds, ideas and thoughts to broaden her horizon. Here was a person who came from a conservative family who never lost sight of her middle class values and principles but constantly broadened her mind and vision … I want to emphasize particularly values which she believed in most strongly and something she wanted to inculcate not only in her own children but all children who have passed through The Shri Ram Schools.”

Mr Arun Bharat Ram

Her philanthropic activities extended to other fields as well. She worked with Mrs. Kamladevi Chattopadhyay and Mrs. Rukmani Devi Arundale in the field of art, culture and crafts. She was also associated with Mary Clubwalla in Chennai with Guild of Service which trained widows to learn some trade through which they could become self-sufficient. Mrs. Manju Bharat Ram also served as the Trustee and Honorary General Secretary of the Blind Relief Association since 1968.

Born on 29th December, 1945 she did her schooling and college from Delhi. Later she married Mr. Arun Bharat Ram, a well-known businessman and currently the Chairman of SRF Limited. As a board member of SRF Foundation, the social wing of SRF Limited, she was  instrumental in the Foundation’s adoption of  40 government schools in the Mewat region of Haryana.

May her belief that “The children must love to come to school every day” live on and on…
